Description
Well after realising how crap my last piece was, I have taken a liking to this one. The architecture is based on a small picture I saw in a travel magazine of part of a palace in Mantova (Northern Italy). I changed and added a few things; the latin on the front, and the building on the side. proportions are off, but I have stayed quite true to the colours and architecture. Comments and Criticisms more than welcome.
Some Technical details:
render time at 1200x1600 was 6 mins with 44 lights, and ambient intensity (which I normally hate) 93820 polys and low AA. No radiosity was used, as I decided to take the challenge and do an outdoors scene without it. The blur was and sharpening was done in photoshop.

Personally I find the sky to overpowering for the image. Maybe some clouds would soften it and not detract from the building, or render from a different point of view focusing on the building a bit more. Modelling and lighting is superb. Great job.

Gorgeous water! The modeling of the structure is perfect and your textures are very well done. Perhaps the stone joint at the face of the arches should wrap around into the vaulted area below? The double columns are a very nice Palladian touch, would be nice to see some sculptural ornamentation at the pediment... pitch of the roof looks a bit steep. :o) Awesome work!
