Description
Saucy Jack was a nickname given to Jack the Ripper in one of the so-called 'Ripper Letters' sent to the newspapers at the time (1888).
Please don't think I am implying that the terrible murders of 5 or more women was the work or some dashing chap or consider jack the Ripper to be sexy per se - however many newspapers and magazines of the day did present the murderer in a somewhat romantic light. He was sometimes portrayed as a 'bit of a rogue', avoiding authority and possibly charming his victims with his good looks. I imagine it was the upper classes, who lived a long way from the squalor and terror of Whitechapel, who enjoyed this concept the most. This picture represents this contempory image.
I know I am not much of an artist but I did want to picture Jack in a variety of ways - because no one knows what he looked like it is fascinating to see all the different portrayals of the killer over the years. This is my first offering.
