Description

A recreation of Edward Hopper's "Summertime" painting of 1943. The building is my largest modeling project yet. Made it two stories tall and very wide, based only on this painting. He uses the same building in several interior paintings, so you'll be seeing it again. Not a lot of post work. *** the original can be seen here: http://sunsite.icm.edu.pl/cjackson/hopper/p-hopper16.htm

Not bad, really close recreation but the main part that bugs me is the square grooves in the building compared with the rounded in the original. I don't know how hard that would be to fix now, but its just an observation.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Hopper's painting style makes everything a lot softer than reality. My modeling skills were taxed, but it would probably take a lot more polygons to do. Thanks.

A well done tribute to one of my favorite painters. Would also look cool with a slight painted effect.

I really like it! When I lived in Chicago, I'd often go to the Art Institute just for a Hopper fix. You even have the curtain just right! [Not that you need to, but you can use the "Altitude render" to take care of the bevels: With the camera overhead, and building rotated facing up, make an altitude render of the building. (blur slightly). Then load it back in, as a terrain object, line it up, and delete away your original building model - one piece! saves millions of polygons!] But right now, you're all done here. Let's see the next one!

You recreated opper very well! Strange you think Hopper makes things "softer" with his harsh lighting and the sense of loneliness and alienation his paintings give (at least to me.

Speaking as someone who has done his own recreation of a painting, I enjoyed your take on this. Still not sure about where I stand on the 'hard edged 3D look' versus 'fake painting filter effect', but this gives me something to think about...

Beautiful recreation of one of my favorite paintings. Maybe you should do a side by side stereo view so I can walk into it! Mega-excellent. :-)
