I really like what you have done here. I think the method of display looks kind of like finger painting, like someone smudged paint around which looks kinda cool, it also looks a bit like it's underwater, the pattern created by the effect, especially on the wood looks like caustics from light shining through rippling water. Which is cool. More importantly though, is not the way you have displayed this, but rather the subject matter you have found. Really when you think about it this is common, I know I've seen an old gate locked up but attached to nothing. The idea of the gate, lock and barbed wire is protection. It's ironic to have these elements with their function taken away. It makes me wonder why this was left there, which always seems to be the case. Is it that they servered there purpose too well making this gate a permenent monument? Anyways I could go on forever. I think the concept, the subject is brilliant, while the manipulation is cool to look at, I don't think it pushes the idea further. If you can find a way to deal with the ideas that come up from the chain and gate, their permanence, the passage of time, etc etc, in a visual way, it would blow peoples minds!! Very cool find, and thoughtful thing to present as art. Push it further!
