Description
The phone rang at half 5 in the afternoon. She was ringing her hands on a paper towel, fingers spongey and pruned from dishwater. Picking up the phone, the handset slid in her still damp fingers...
" Hello?"
There was a pause. I imagine they grant you this 2 second pause to give you time to put the phone down. But after that generous heartbeat of a moment, the line fills with the well practiced lines....
of the Telemarketer.
" Good Morning Ma'am!"
" Ohgod."
" Wouldyoubeinterestedinbuyingourproduct?itsbrandnewstateoftheart,andyoucangetitforzerodownrightnow,yesrightnow,yesyesyes?anyquestions?"
"Uhm.."
"Weareinfactofferingthisverynewandverypopularproducttoyouinthisspecialdeal,ifyouagree?"
And so she settled the phone down..as gently as possible. Back into the cradle. And collapsed her face into her hands.
Bloody Hell...dont these people have souls?
