Lighting is from the "south". Craters look exactly like craters to me. Excellent coloring & surface especially at differing elevations! (and I usually don't comment on "Mars" images...)

Excellent Mars render. The "button" effect is due to the light source being rather high in the sky, so the shadows make depressions look like rises. If you reduce the angle of the sun, you will see more defined craters.

Before I saw any comments and viewed the picture; I thought that the terrain was 'inverted'. Then, I read Lutz' comments. However, after closer examination, I agree with some of the other comments. You have done an excellent job on this image.
