Description

Here is a visual I did for a client to show him what I had in mind for illustrating a back pain leaflet. This is was only a rough visual. put together in minutes, just to give him an idea of what I had in mind, but I still think it was worthwhile posting anyway! Did they like it? No they went for a weightlifter image.....the client is always right as they say!!! Thanks for viewing.

Hi zboyi. I am a self employed professional bodyworker, a Certified Massage Therapist. I purchased Poser 5 not too long ago in order to create images for my website similar to what you have done in this image. Offering constructive criticism as a professional in that field, your work is great and useful but not for representing back pain in my professional opinion. The figures are great, especially with the skeletal visual. However, I make no association with "back pain" in that image. For myself, the colors you have used are calm, cool, soothing, and relaxing. My association with those colors is from the television sleep-aid medication commercials - the colors make me relaxed and even tired wanting sleep. The association of pain would be given to me if perhaps a red light was emanating out from a point near the spine, maybe in the upper back in between spine and scapula, or one of the lower lumbars. The pose of just standing there doesnt convey a sense of pain, but if there was some sort of movement suggested something I might do especially a simple day to day movement that I wouldnt think twice about doing, that might cause sudden unexpected pain. If Im an office worker, maybe a piece of paper fell off my desk and Im bending over to pick it up. Or, if Im a weight-lifter then if I lean over in just the wrong position to pick up a dumbbell those are just some ideas Im using in my own renderings. The work itself is really great in my opinion. As a bodyworker professional, if I wanted something representing back pain I would not chose that particular piece primarily due to the overall color scheme its too soothing and lacks pain in my opinion. I hope my thoughts are helpful.

Thanks, taking on board your comments: This was done in a matter of minutes to get feedback from my client. I was restricted in colour scheme as blue is their corporate colour and I had to use this colour scheme, this was part of the brief. If the concept was approved I would have started from scratch again and thought about posing the figures in a different situation, and I did talk about using a heat glows around certain areas of pain, Please remember this was a 'working concept' intended for style only to get feedback from client for further development, unfortunatly in my business deadlines are getting shorter and shorter the client wants to see ideas yesterday!
