Description

I decided to give painting hair and clothes a try so I created this figure and played around. Painting done in Photoshop. How is it for a first attempt? Please feel free to comment and offer advice!

You did a wonderful job here for your first painting. The top is very well done. The skirt need more shadows, especially to hightlight one the right leg. The hair is for a comic style (please being not bad) good, but for a pinup style not suitable. Youve big potential and Im sure we can see more of your painting work. Don't let yourself discourage ... everybody begins :) Hugs Stoffel

I think when anyone tries something completely new, there's a tendency to overdo it with too many highlights or too many folds. I agree that you have potential, but what you need to do is define how much detail you want to express. I like for things to be crisp and clean while others prefer a more painted look. The best thing to do is find a mentor whose style you like and learn from them, or look at real life reference until you understand how hair is highlighted and cloth folds around the body. Sometimes, less detail is better and leave more to the viewer's imagination. Good luck and keep trying :)

thanks for the comments, i'm already starting on a new picture. I'm going to try to find a middle ground for the detail so it looks cleaner.. so if anyone has more suggestions keep em coming. thanks!
