how is it possible that such a "simple" fractal could take over 9 hours to render? (My machine isn't THAT slow)

This took 9 hours ??? Don't get me wrong, i love this image and the purity of the forms ( not to mention the visual tricks that this image plays with my eyes-brain.) But NINE hours ... Well, at least it turned out excellent !!

bizarre as it sounds it's true. don't know why! I've had pieces take just above three hours for rendering and i thought that was long.

It's a really sharp render though! My guess would be all the antialiasing for the diagonals. I hope you let it run while you slept!
