Description

This is an Eagle from the Space 1999 serie (1974) that I've overlayed on a picture of my desk. It is a first attempt in overlaying a 3ds model over a picture I took with my Sony DSCP-32. This picture has been reduced of course in size and bit depth... I think I'm gonna make it liftoff from the desk with the smoke and dust coming from under the eagle. This might be amusing to watch. The eagle model comes from TOBOR'S MODEL PAGE from the net. All eagle credits goes to him. http://www.btinternet.com/%7Etobor/index.htm The shadows might be a little to dark I think... Any comments will be appreciated to increase realism or else. Take note it is still a work in progress and in developpement. Thanks.

Great stuff, the shadow is the right colour, but maybe coming from the wrong direction, as you can see no other shadows on your desk, suggesting the light source is directly above. You might also try and create a cylinder in the same place as that can, and make it reflective, then mess with the settings of the material to get both the real picture and the reflection of the eagle in the can.

Thanks for your comments. In fact, the lighting comes about over the eagle's cockpit. The earphones are suspended to the 13 watts neon lamp. But according the the other shadows on desk, it effectively misguide people... I might try to make things better in a next version... You are right about the cola can. I think I will overlay a reflection on the eagle on it or replace the can by a 3d model... This will add realism ! Thanks.

It has been a long time since I saw the series when I was a child but, I think it looks exactly like in the series.
Good job and good image, misplaced shadows and all!!

the shadows are a bit too dark now that you mention it, but the lighting is dead on. Before I read that the backround is a picture, I thought it was 3d, so it really does blend in with the image.

yep; excellent. A reflection in the can, and softening of the shadows that fall further from their casting component (as in, look at the way the shadow from the can immediately under the space ship's nose starts to blur) would make it dead on.
