Description

Honestly I have no clue as to what bug this is. I noticed it as I was trying to capture some dragonflys and this one seemed to scare the Sh*** out of all the Dragonflys. It was only then I realised that it was craving attention so I gave it the due attention it craved. Din't go any closer than this as I am still nursing a bug bite; like the saying goes...... Once bitten Twice shy. thanks for you all your c & c :o)) SNAKEY

There are several Dioctria species looking like that and having the same predating behaviours These species differ a bit from the other robber flies as Empis Tesselata (one of my favs): the wings are dark, the body is shorter than the wings. And last but not least, the're able to capture insects bigger than they are ! A fab shot my friend ! V

Excellent shot ! Glad to know what this species is, tho I have always called them a jar fly LOL because when we were kids we would capture them and but them in a Mason jar and man would they buzz against it:) Guess I was the evil child eh? Me and countless others then:) Thanks for the memories on this one too Hugs Susan~

There are only two things that really creep me out... Bugs and BUGS, ok, technically that's one thing, but it's quite an imporant one I thought I'd mention it twice. Ugly bug you've captured there Raj, as for species it's a bugifius-majoris "big bug". Nice pic. DOF is cool.

What a cool looking bug! Wonder what he said to all of those dragonflies to make them pack up and leave? I would also be careful if I had been bitten. Excellent image Snakey! :)
