Description
On Beltaine (May Day) it is traditional in England to celebrate the mid point of the Celtic year (that began on November the first, thus the tradition of 'Hallowed Eve')and the ushering in of Summer. It is roughly half way between the Spring Eqinox (equal day and night) and the Summer Solstice (longest day)
Last year (2003) we spent the official holiday (May the 6th) at the Green Man parade in Hastings. The day this photo was taken was the 'true' May Day, May the 1st. Eilonwy wanted to dress up as a fairy, and this was the result of her efforts.

Absolutely adorable! I've never lived anywhere where Mayday was celebrated (I've lived in the NE, London and Birmingham) although I know its more common in the west country and devon & cornwall. Sounds fun :-)
