I am a developing artist working on improving my abilities to create beautiful digital landscape compositions. Without the help and suggestions of the many fellow artists in this community, it would be a long time before I reach the next level.
BIO
I am a retired procurement professional who has long had an interest in photography and painting; and, lately in computers and photorealistic natural landscapes. I hope to become more proficient and perfect my abilities to produce acceptable work. My experience in art started at a very early age when I would spend many hours sketching and painting. I had instruction at The Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. I did some freelance work for Flying Models, Model Airplane News and Top Flite Models creating plans and illustrative construction sequences for magazines and kit models. I had spent more than 20 years designing, building and flying radio controlled model airplanes...a very rewarding hobby for me. During the 1970s, I spent 11 years in the hobby of "bonsai"; the Japanese art of miniature trees. In my first 7 tree entry in a contest, all 7 trees were awarded ribbons in various categories. Japanese landscaping became a passion for me where I completed a 3 year project creating a Japanese landscape around my home in Oak Forest, Illinois. I also did this work for several other people in our community. In 1987 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona where I currently make my home. The love of the American southwest and all its beauty is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Now that we have computers, digital cameras; and, Terragen; I'll have enough to do for a long, long time.

This DOES look just like the painted desert, and I think it enhances the look of the surface the way you did it! Excellent work Bob! :)

Bob, maybe you're not sure - but I am! This is wonderful art! "Painted Desert" is the right name for this image. The surface is very pleasing to my eyes and the atmo gives a nice sense of depth to the terrain. Btw. I really like this sky - would like to see it again in one of your following renders... Excellent work!

Coloring, atmo & rays are what I like here most...!

Looks like everyone already said what I would. Only thing I would change is to use a height map with the strata layers to give it a little variation. The strata slicing the horizon seems a little unnatural to me. :D Cheers!

Strata is a little too rigid for my tastes, but this is still an excellent picture.

Excellent surface and terrain....well done.

The strata and pebble distribution texture work fine for me, though a subtle strata distribution map may prove to be an asset. I am troubled by the transparency of the water in the foreground, it looks a somewhat surreal and foreground shadows are always troublesome for textures. I would suggest that re-visiting this image would be worthwhile because the basics are very strong and well done and the image deserves it. BTW the atmosphere is top-notch here, I like the colour and the subtle rays.

The ruler-straight strata may be what you are not sure of. Terrain (Navajo?) is very desert-like & texture colors work very well. I like the atmo - looks like an impending storm.

I like this picture Bob...the shadow foreground and rays are cool and the green atmosphere makes it seem alien or Sci-Fi...excellent work!!

The result is beautiful with this choice of colors.
