Perennially 39yo female cartoonist and digital artist from Sydney, AustraliaBIOI left digital art for cartooning some years ago. Then I left cartooning to lay music. Starting to feel the itch again.
Like many, I love Pablo Picasso's work. I also enjoy Dali, Braque, Duchamp, etc (I'm a terrible cubist tart). My favourite cartoonists are Larson and Leunig who are, of course, more twisted than cubist.

Great idea! Let me know when you take over as the new BBC controller - then I'll be watching :-)

Here in the US, our national news programs are usually finger-pointing about whose fault something is, and local news is usually overpaid talking heads doing fluff stories like puppies rescued from a storm drain. Almost all "news" sources here are so biased that they border on useless commentary. No wonder I have to get information from alternative sources.

I don't watch television and doubt that much can be done to reform it. Just as a canary will die in the poisonous air of a mine, the truth dies in the medium of television. The major media in the US are owned and controlled by a half dozen corporations with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

And the news media in many other countries are state controlled with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo (Al Jazeera comes to mind). I guess you don't win with TV Media in any country, really.

well, in oz ... and i think this would be the case in most western countries - the commercial news outlets have two agendas more important to them than providing information - one is to get ratings (with disaster shlock) and the other is to promote right wing governments because the station owners are, obviously, big biz players. i know that both the BBC in the UK and the ABC in Oz get in trouble with governments of both persuasions, but especially right wing ones, for taking a whistleblower role. it's a bit like "hey, whatcha dumping on us for? why don't you let us get on with our little games quietly and you keep the people entertained with murders and freak shows" ... so if not for the public owned media we'd be all Al Jazeera and CNN too!

Wonderful thoughts here I only wish the news could be all good and maybe even unneeded at all. I remember growing up in the turbulent 60s the news in New York City was broken up into 3 parts and it was all bad. 1st was the Vietnam War coverage; 2nd was the Civil rights movement here in America; 3rd was the Social revolution {you know the length of a mans hair should not matter} stuff like that. It seems now that the 6 oclock news is just a new form of the old Roman coliseum, only instead of throwing them to Lions we watch others grind them up metaphorically speaking through character assignation and the such. This is something I fear will never change my friend. But let us all keep hoping. Wonderful work of art, wonderful thoughts.

I have often thought the same thing... I'm just a step beyond your idea. Since there are already so many "bad news" channels. Why not have a "Good News" channel?
