in my opinion, the crappy textures add more to the image then they take away... suggestions and tips for texturing this will by highly valued.. thanks!

The modeling is coming along very nicely. I suggest you start with a nice seamless image tile for the metal and layer your procedural diffusion and bumps over that. I'm sure you can find tons of image references online for gun metal. Keep on posting, this is improving with every post! :o)
