Description

I had just moved into the apartment the day before and was wondering who my neighbors were and what they'd be like. It was the middle of the city and there shouldn't have been anything but the sounds of horns and sirens, but all night long I thought I could hear crickets and birds. Early the next morning, I opened the door, headed out to find a diner. The lady across the hall was just picking up her newspaper. She looked at me with sleepy green eyes and smiled. I think she said, "Good morning" twice, before I shook my head and realized I was staring. She was beautiful and behind her was a aura of sunlight. The smell of fresh forest came through my doorway in a breeze. Birds and butterflies darted around the hallway. I saw an amazing number of plants inside her apartment and would have thought it was a jungle if it weren't for the windows. There was even the sound of a babbling brook in the distance. I introduced myself and mentioned that she sure had a lot of plants. Then, something moved behind her and I did a doubletake. "Is that a deer?" I asked. She scratched her jaw and looked rather hesitant. "Actually, I'm Mother Nature, but you can call me Margaret." She looked both ways down the hall and came over to me. "Look, we're not supposed to have more than one pet, so please don't mention the deer. Or the racoons. Of course, the cougar is a cat, so I guess that's alright, technically." She smiled sweetly and said she should get back inside. I said it was nice to meet her and that I was going out for breakfast. Margaret looked down and said I should carry an umbrella. There had been a sunny and very clear sunrise and I chuckled that it wasn't going to rain. She grinned and then I heard some thunder.

Perfect! Just the way I pictured her. Can we call her 'Marge' or 'Maddy'?

The anthropomorphic personification next door is younger than I had expected - and single, too, that's the best thing. You never hear of Father Nature, do you? ;)

I Absolutely LOVE this concept and image and story! I do have one suggestion that came to mind only after I read the text. What about making the hallway significantly darker, so that the sunlight streaming out of her room is much more of a contrast?
