Description

Many were the summer nights when my little brother and I would sit in our grandfather's trophy room. He would buckle on his enchanted sword and entertain us with the tales of his fantastic adventures on demon safari many years ago...

FAR more than you probably ever wanted to know about this image:

POV-Ray 3.5 was used for the design of objects and the rendering. Final render time was a little over five hours on a P4 2.7Mhz - WinXP - 512Mb machine. Paint Shop Pro 8 was used to manipulate textures and to do a little bit of post color correction. I wrote a little app in Visual Basic 6 to generate the points for the candlesticks from nodes I marked on a photo in PSP8.

The horns and plant vines are a series of spheres swept along a spline, with procedural textures. The bricks are isosurfaces with photo textures painted on them. The leaves and flames are textures maps with transparency to give them shape. Everything was modeled on graph paper, in my head, and/or with many re-renders at low-res.

    · Brick texture was culled from photo textures at The 3D Scene.
    · More bricks came from Mayang's Free Textures.
    · Wood plaque texture is from Zoo Render.
    · Wood (mantle) texture is from Kruzr's Resources.
    · Leaf and flame textures are from photos from Image After.

I think you are a an artistic genius. I am very impressed (and confused) by all the techniques you used to make this excellent render. The story about your grandfather's trophy room touched my heart.
