Description

I'm trying to get used to importing objects, especially animals, into my scenes. I wanted to add bubbles to the whales, but they looked out of place - the bubbles themselves were visible, but the object in which they were contained was also visible (they came with the whale object). I couldn't make the object invisible while keeping the bubbles :( Any ideas on this would be welcome. JoeBlack

Great colors and texture on the whales! Could use some vegetation I think, it looks like they are swimming in a tank.....would be nice to see them swimming free S

As for the shadows, well, the water is shallow and the sun was fairly overhead...BTW: how exactly do you use caustics? I tried putting some "planes" in front of 3 spotlights, adding a "light gel" to them, but I didn't notice much difference ("use caustics" WAS selected). So I removed all the lights except the sun. As for the texture of the whales, I didn't do anything - it came with the whales, jpgs/bitmaps included in the file. Can't take the credit :) Might try the bubbles again...thanx JoeBlack

As for caustic, using the standard preset from Vue need a little play around after you set your power lighting. Play around with the "tranparency, fade out colour and clear" value. Another way is to get a good texture that of a swimming pool water which has some nice caustic patter. Put this on a plane and have it just above the surface (very close and add a powerful spotlight above it. Make sure you sun is almost directly above but need not to be close. Again, you have to adjust the value for the "fade out" and "clear...at times the "fade" colour has to be change to 'blend' right. Again, the ground texture color is important as it can chamge the whole ambient look.
