Description

The edge of the 'Champagne Pool' in Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, NZ. This pool is a hot spring 65 metres across and 62 metres deep and has a surface temperature of 74 degrees C. It is called the Champagne Pool because of the carbon dioxide bubbles in the water. The orange edge is due to the mineral antimony being deposited. Other minerals in the water include gold, silver, arsenic, mercury, thallium, so making the water not only very hot but toxic as well. Great place to visit - strange colours, features, and smells!

Awesome shot! It's really beautiful! Looks a little unreal, as if you took this shot on Mars or Venus... And the compositon is just perfect for me. Congrats!

We love Rotorua!!! Saw almost everything there! This IS a great composition considering the limited angle for photographs the boardwalks provide. Excellently done and well researched as well! You would discover pretty quickly why people don't swim there by testing the edge of the water with a toe and watching it go bright pink!

Nah, its too weird to be true. If you said you'd been to Venus or Titan or Uranus or somewhere ,I might believe you, but this is not the same planet as I live on!!!!!
