Description
The US Declaration of Independence is unique in the history of mankind. Usually declarations of independence are declared by colonized people. If they are successful they reclaim their land and send the colonizers home.
The US Declaration of Independence was the only of its kind which was declared by the colonizers and not by the colonized. Consequently it didn't cease displacement and colonization.
One mayor reason for the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary war was the Royal Proclamation of 1763 which declared an Indian Territory which was off limits for further white encroachment and displacement without royal consent. The borders were to be protected and the whole border regime to be financed by those settlers living on the already ethnically cleansed land of the then 13 colonies. Many settlers were enraged and the issue of stopping or continuing Indian displacement became one of the prime reasons of the American Revolution.
This doesn't sound very nice, however. Thus taxes and "liberty" as such are usually mentioned as the reasons of the Revolutionary war.
Today the surviving Native Americans hold two percent of the US landbase although much of their land is leased to and used by whites. They are by far the poorest and most marginalized section of the US population. They comprise 0,6 percent of the population of the US today. Legally their nations are called "dependent sovereigns".
Do YOU feel independent at least?
Good for you.
