Thanks to DMI car 3d models for the car.(http://dmi.chez.tiscali.fr/models1.html) They have some great -free!- stuff there, check it out!
I used radiosity, DOF and volumetric light for this image and NO postwork (execpt web compression). I thought the model looked like a 1/10 scale car when I saw it so I tried to make the scene fit. I think I need a big antenna and a frensel shader on the car. Whadda ya think?

it almost looks like its a piece on a chess board, which i think may be an unusual and therefor very interesting context. Or perhaps using your idea from the perspective of a radio controlled car, with a scaled up world around it? Just some thoughts...

Small problem of scale needs to be worked out here... and I'm not sure what's going on with the reflections on the cars.
