Latin name Tyria Jacobeae.
This is caterpillar of the cinnabar moth.
The bold black and yellow stripes are a
warning of retribution as bold as those
of a wasp. Cinnabar caterpillars feed on
the leaves of ragwort and sometimes
groundsel and coltsfoot.
If they survive and pupate, they
eventually emerge as black and red
adult moths. They are as conspicuous and
as poisonous as the caterpillars.
The source of the poison is the ragwort,
which produces alkaloids in its leaves.
Ragwort is poisonous to horses but not
to sheep

Retribution??? Phew.....Glad he's not cranky with me.. or if I ate him on a lettuce leaf by accident what would happen?

Thanks for the wonderful comments so far ! :o) strong>@PapaGuru:</strong I hope so too, i read somewhere that the moths fly in two to three weeks. So i'll be there. The moth are dayflying and are black and red colors. :o) strong>@Addiek:</strong I dunno, i guess you would get sick. But anyway, you wouldnt eat it all the way to begin with they are supposed to taste awful ! :o)
