Welcome and good start. You've a good eye for point-of-view. Look at some of the images here (start with TOP 20) for ideas. Most of us shoot for realism. This requires complex surfaces (colors on the terrain), realistic clouds (2D only) and crisp renders (high resolution). Now, go forth and Terragen!

As for the first render it's promising :) Generally all that said stbc is true, so... let the spare CPU cycles be with you! ;) Ach... BTW: you really should put a thumbnail in gallery...

Nice use of colour; try less bump on the surface and add more layer; and drop the 3d clouds as has been suggested

The water is very interesting. You should make the clouds shorter for more realism. Change the height from 8 to about 2. Now you should learn how to make layers on your surface. Welcome to the community!
