Description
A quick WIP of a space vessel I'm building. The design is set in stone now but if anyone has any ideas for little touches feel free.
The ship has main thrusters to the rear (naturally) but also two forward for breaking, and maneuvre jets on the sides. I am heavily influenced by the Victorian era through to the 1940's so I wanted an old heavy style that follow the laws of physics (as opposed to spacecraft in such things as Star Wars, much as I love those too).
I used Moebius87's Armour Panels texture in the construction of Polythemus's tex map.
Haven't worked out how many the crew would be yet so I'm open to suggestions. For scaling the little white thing on the side view near the top is actually a crewman in a suite.
Factual note: the HMS Polythemus was a torpedo boat belonging to the Royal Navy in the Victorian era and is the ship that H.G. Wells calls Thunderchild in 'War of The Worlds' (and in the song on Jeff Waynes fantstic album)

Hawke
Looks like a tough brute of a ship

Definitely has an "Ironclad" look to it. I wonder if more barbettes on the side or even "Honor Harrington" style broadside missile tubes might be in order?

Excellent model and wonderful texturing. I think the model is fine as is, but I suppose you could add more paneling detail or some lights or something.

On the subject of broad side missiles, in this case not. The ship is designed to be very much like her name sake which was a lightly armed but fast platform for launching torpedoes. If she was a larger vessel then I would definately go down that route.

Nice looking model, does it float :P

I cant help thinking in a frictionless enviroment it wouldnt mater what way was "front", therefor Id have one massive thruster on a revolable base :) This is quite realistic though, and i approve of "real" physics in space :) I do think it needs a bump map though :)

Fantastic design, my friend! This looks like a most impressive (read as "scary") starvessel.
As far as crew size is concerned... calculate her overall volume, subtract 50% for engines and weapons systems, subtract another 20% for circulation and common areas then allow 8.00 m for each crewmember and you'll get an acceptable starting number of crew members. You can then add or subtract from that as you see fit.
Glad that texture came in handy, mate. :o)

Very chunky ! And very Warhammer :-)

Pretty decent looking boat. It looks space worthy from this pov.

I agree with Hawke, this looks like one tuff ship. Looks like the hull could really take a beating. Great model.
