I think, (try to) that the flare's corona? is just a bit too much over the earth. If this was made in photoshop I'd given the earth a feather of 22 pixels depending on the size of the image and then popped in the flare, but this ain't made in it and I haven't got a clue if such is possible in 3dmax.
