I dropped this into photopaint and played with it for a few minutes, and this is what I came up with. For me, it worked out well. Considering what you said about something missing, I eventually decided to focus on the eyes a lot. I put in a bunch of various points of reflection, making them seem wetter (which seemed to work with the streaks) and much brighter. The greens really came out well too. This got me thinking about really making the eyes an even stronger focal point, so I masked 'em out and dipped the saturation, intensity, and brightness a little. It's all my tastes, but I liked the results. I hope you can get something useful out of my blathering... The fact that I spent the time playing with it only illustrates how powerful and captivating the image is to start with.
