I passed my fingers over the braille of the transom and the penny post slot. I felt the door open with one corner stuck and then break suddenly to rattle a bit. Then I focussed on the number "1598." Like a price to be signed by a tax it isn't an even dollar. I wondered if Sir Francis Drake or Sir Walter Raleigh did anything then. Elizabeth I was queen?
