Description

It was fun and fantasy, hopes and dreams, puppy love and romance. It was Ed Hurst, rock and roll, the Marine Ballroom, diving horses, sun and sand, and the diving bell that took you to the bottom of the ocean. It was roller coasters, bumper cars, hot dogs, and cotton candy. Built by the Quakers as a place to relax, Steel Pier opened to the public in Atlantic City in 1898 with Annie Oakley as the opening attraction. Battered by storms, damaged by fire, it closed in 1976 to be reopened in 1993 as part of Donald Trump's Taj Mahal Casino. The Pier will continue to live in dreams and memories and the minds and hearts of young and old.
