This is an alpha-map test. I just wanted to know whats possible with this kind of texturing. Critics are welcome but don't critisize me too hard, its just a test:-)

Great job so far. Did you use HDRI ? If not try it. The combination with radiosity gives a great realistic effect. Also the shadows need some work. I would suggest area shadow. Its time consuming but also gives a great effect. I hope this helps. :)

very nice! i like the dirt on the plate. It looks like you have the "additive" box checked on the material for the glass and water in the transparency channel. That is why it is so unnaturally bright. try unchecking that, but make sure "fresnel" is still checked.
