"Savuk," Riglak smiles, returning the greeting. "So you've finally done it - you've finally broken away from Mordimus. Rumours are spreading that he's furious." "Good," Savuk says, pleased. "And I heard rumours about you as well, Riglak. Your success as Nicholson Gate was most impressive. That was a clever trick you pulled." "Ahh," says Riglak, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I see your spies are well informed." "Indeed," Savuk grins. "There are many within Mordimus' ranks who are loyal to me." "You were a popular leader, Savuk, and many are sympathetic to your cause," Riglak agrees. "But few will come. Mordimus' hold over them is too strong." "Why are you here, Riglak?" "Because I'm sick of it, Savuk," Riglak spits, the smile vanishing suddenly from her face. "He uses us like pawns. We invade town after town, we win battle after battle, but we win no spoils of war. As soon as we take a town he pulls us back out so they can rebuild. There is no point to what he does. He seeks only to please his Goddess, Kiana. And all she seeks is slaughter." A look of disdain crosses Savuk's face. "Mordimus is a blight upon the history of our race. Not since the Dying Years has our future looked so bleak." "You mean to kill him," Riglak says shrewdly, staring hard into Savuk's eyes. "I do." Riglak nods, her eyes narrowing. "He tries to order us to attack you, Savuk; but none will obey, not even his most loyal captains. But if you invade the mountain, they WILL protect him and they WILL destroy you. They will be loathe to do it, but they will feel compelled. Kiana grants him strong powers over his army. There are few who can resist it." "I know," Savuk says, stopping for a moment to look up at the brooding storm clouds. "That's why I'm going to kill her first."
