Description

Jervaulx abbey is in Yorkshire UK and was founded in 1098, it housed the Cistercian Order of monks. It remained in use until it was suppressed by Henry Vlll in 1537. All the lead from the roof and the bells were carted away by the King's agents and in the years that followed, much of the stone was plundered for local buildings. it is now a very atmospheric ruin in a beautiful and peaceful setting.
