Description

hi all ! a try to set the relative render quality between 3D studio and Vue, 3D studio is a very expensive professional tool: difference is clear... but Vue can do great render... what do you think about this ? (set the scene and lights in 3d Studio : many hours, set the scene in Vue a couple of minutes...) ah i forget... time of Vue rendering 3h 9 min. Luca.

Both of these images are awesome but I do prefer Vue version - the lighting in it seems better, especially at the window. Bravo!!

Very interesting concept and educational as well. Seems you get (far) better looking/smoother soft shadows in Max, but actually I think it is possible to make something closer to this in Vue, with higher antialiasing (if you didn't already try this). Wonderful work btw. :)

thanx bigbraader, in vue the quality is Broadcast, but also in MAX are not the best (image was renderd in only 25 minutes...), but yes ! you right about quality of Vue.

Great comparison; I'd say Vue Pro holds up pretty well! (Love the scene and lighting, by the way!)

It makes me think that 3d studio was written with assembly language. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting comparison. Vue stands up very well. Looks like you only used a broadcast render in Vue. Hours to minutes setup is a large difference. Another great reason to choose Vue. BTW... excellent image.

Considering the difference in price of the two programs, I'd say that Vue is excellent in its category. A fun and very interesting experiment!

I prefer the vue picture. The lighting is softer. Excellent work.

I'm not shure about which image is "better". Both have their special style. Many thanks for the background info - very interesting comparism. :)

Very interesting comparison... I think it's possible to increase the quality of soft shadows in Vue by using oversampling in this way : render the picture with a very large resolution : 4000x 3000 for example... and then resize it to 800x600 in a 2D soft... it could help ... thank you for sharing your work and ideas

Sure Pmermino, Vue version would be better with extra size and superior quality of rendering. i think in that case the only difference would be the color-light reflection made by radiosity... (in 3dmax you can see a little soft yellow light around the statue, in vue statue are grey...)

I find both scenes Fantastic Softwares are important in designing a scene... but the talent and creativity of an Artist is what counts most at the end... And You are a GREAT Artist no matter what!! Excellent

Fun to look at and educational too! I do believe I like the MAX version better. What fun though to "push" Vue just to see what could be done!

MAX version is definitely the more realistic of the two but considering the price difference Vue holds up fairly well.

Excellent comparison! The lights on the right wall look different..1 window light in Vue and 2 in Max.

yes coa, this is true, but the sencond windows in Vue exist... unfortunelly the light is too right in image and is hidden for vue render

Great comparison Rod! I did something similar to this myself some time ago (never posted, wasn't good enough in either LOL) and it was amazing just how close you really can get with Vue. For my money max's renderer will always win out. I render all my scenes in Max first to test textures and UVW unwrapped ones especially. When in Max things always, always look superior, but thats relected in the price i guess. This is a fine image in both versions, and some excellent work all round. thx for sharing, I always find your work interesting and original.
