I see you are developing terrains better - may I suggest 2 things, (1) get closer to the terrain (POV point of view) (2) I see you are working hard on the surface material, keep working on it. By being closer to the terrain and changing your POV, the surfaces show up much better. Keep practicing and am looking forward to your improvements!

Your lighting has shown improvment! fenixcats has some good suggestions. You might also try rendering a 800x600 or larger so you can see what your surfacing is doing. You're getting there fast!
