Description
August 6th is World Peace Day. This year, it's also my grandmother's 90th birthday. Dug out from the archives of her old photos, was this gem, at a guess taken of her in her 20s. Many hours were spent getting the subtle shading just right, which my scanner then refused to pick up, despite me going back and darkening it slightly. Ah well.
Tomorrow it gets framed and given to her at the party we're having for her, as my gift to a great mother and grandmother. It will be a fairly large affair too... her only daughter went on to have 16 children! My dad could only manage 5, but I'm not complaining.

This is so incredible Ava I just wish you were here so I could hug you in person for what you have captured within this magnificent sketch HUGEST HUGS The textures are so tactile I feel I could touch the screen and feel them, especially the metal brooch and the soft ruffles surrounding. Thank you so much for sharing this my friend hugest hugs :)

You weren't kidding about the size of that ruffle! You've done a beautiful job sketching it; it has that soft, translucent quality of pale, thin fabric that can be so hard to reproduce in pencil. The delicate touches of shading have provided this sheerness wonderfully and if the scanner didn't even pick it all up, I wish I could see the real thing:) The face is very well done, and the glasses look good - like they ARE sitting on her nose and not melded to her face. I bet she adored it and has every reason tooHUGS
