Description

Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never. Eliezer Wiesel from the book Night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thank you for looking and we must never forget, we must remember what evils mankind can do. Shalom

Grim and dark and very, very true. The horrors of the fire and the skeleton contrasting with the soft beauty of the angel, wonderfully done. Her pose and expression are just perfect. Vote.

Why blame this on mankind? Elie Weisel is blaming it on the Nazis -- not all of mankind -- certainly not on the murdered children, who are also part of mankind. Mankind also liberated the death camps, remember that! Mankind recently liberated 50 million people from Baathist and Taliban tyrants. Give mankind some credit.

As for Elie Wiesel, I cannot imagine what it was like to suffer and witness the Holocaust personally. But in this poem he claims he'll never get over the horror. But the fact is people do. People survive and triumph sometimes, even though they'll never forget the terror.

Notwithstanding his talent, sensitivity and important work memorializing Jewish suffering at the hands of the Nazis, I've often wondered whether Elie Wiesel would have suffered from deep depression regardless of his traumatic experiences.

The expression in her face is very good and together with your quote of Night says it all, the horror, saddness, sorrow and utter disbelief. As much as we all know the facts, I will never understand how this could happen, why.. The six million, the one and a half million children. May their memories be blessed. Very emotional work, Leah.I shall never forget.
