Description

This picture is of the Franklin Arcology on the water world Columbia. Several of these arcology's are located on the major islands of Columbia. Millions of people live in each one. New pylons are constructed to create more room as the population grows. After many generations of terra-forming Columbia, the planet's surface has become almost earth-like. Unfortunately in the intervening generations most of the population has developed agoraphobia and will not venture from their arcology. Many Earth species have been introduced on Columbia and the planet has become an almost pristine wilderness. Arcology - a concept in which the ideal city is a massive vertical structure, which preserves more of the natural environment, a concept combining architecture and ecology as envisioned by Paolo Soleri. Paolo Soleri's visions of magnificent arcologys have always fascinated me. To be inspired... check out the Arcosanti Project at: http://test.arcosanti.org/project/main.html The models were all made in Wings and rendered in Bryce

Arcology - now there's a word I haven't heard since playing SimCity! Very nicely done, but the pathways give the effect of seemingly reducing the rez of the piece as does the water. Vote!

I'd like to say something more original than WOW, but WOW says it all! The trees in the background are a teenshy bit regular, but it's all great nonetheless. Love the rocks' texture. You got my vote :o))

Really cool, I love it! Only part I'd work on is the water. I think waves would be cooler than ripples...

Oy.. Maccy boy, haven't seen you on the Wings forum in ages. Good stuff, cool designs and nicely done pics. The water bump-map could be better as has been said, but other than that it's good. Only one other thing is in some of the places the mini-cities (or whatever :] ) blend in with the background and it's hard to tell what's what. No depth separation since no stereo-vision.. One way to help that out would be to up the fog/haze to act as a depth cue. That should give a nice outline to the closer structures vs the background
