Description

This is a better shot of the gorgeous colors in the large leaf (spathe) surrounding the large central stalk (spadix). Thanks to all who commented to my last photo, 'Corpse Flower'. Special thanks to jcv2, who correctly stated that this is not the largest flower, but rather the largest inflorescence (group of flowers) in the world. The thousands of flowers are hidden in this view at the bottom of the stalk. On another note, I found that the main pollinators of these plants in native Sumatra are carrion beetles and flesh flies. I couldn't get the tip of the stalk in this photo even though I was already up on a ladder! Oh well, enjoy the gorgeous red/burgundy colors! All comments are welcome! Have a great day, Mike

Largest or largest group........ this is surely something cool which I have never seen. You have captured it beautfully. Given a chance I would name it coitus flowr. Thats how the stalk in the middle make it appear. I love the texture capture. This is cool stuff.:O))

Well, I agree with jcv2 about the smell ;-) and shot :-)
Even without the whole plant in view it is an excellent composed image.
