Description
A Quest!
In the days of old
the lady was rescued
but my knight is being held captive!
These are new times are they not?
So be it!
I am armed with love and hope
faith and trust
Who could ask for more?
Your self-made prison walls
are invisible to all but me
a tower of black crystal.
I can see you fighting your shadow...
Can the concept of being loved
so terrify as to torture
and bind the heart
until it no longer has hope?
Your black angel of fear
is standing astride the bridge.
Your prison door slammed shut
so violently
that I felt it deeply
as it shattered my soul
across the miles between.
How can I assure you for all time
that I would sooner cut out my own heart
than to ever add a shard of pain to yours?
...and I WILL love you!
But perhaps I do not hold the key...
you do...
except you can't hear me telling you
behind your crystal walls.
My angst increases each hour
as I watch you wallow in your pain
earnestly trying to release you.
You once asked so cavalier,
"You enjoy a challenge, don't you?"
Enjoy? No.
But I will not relinquish
even if I am not the key
I have taken my stand
outside your prison door.

I still say you should publish your work, and I would be first in line to buy it. If I could write like you, these would be the words I would use, because it feels almost like your life was a direct reflection of my own...past and present. Excellent work once again.

The anguish and frustration is so apparent in this beautiful poem ... as is the courage and dtermination of the writer. No situation should be entirely hopeless, though it very sadly all too often seems that way. Excellent read.
