Lennon had a way of grabbing hold of things that "just happened", in other words, it didn't make sense but it sounded cool to him at the time. Maybe those are the words that popped into his head, or someone else said something along those lines. Words alone don't carry meaning many times, context and non-verbal langauge play a huge role. Lennon wasn't bothered by ambiguity.

I seem to recall a Lennon interview in maybe Rolling Stone where they asked him about specific songs he wrote. I believe he said about this song something to the effect that he felt isolated and different from everyone else in the way he saw the world ("no one I think is in my tree") and confused by what the world saw as normal and abnormal (the second line you quote). Maybe it was just all the LSD he ate. :^) As usual, an amazing image. V
