Description
In 2345, humans first colonized the fourth moon of the gas giant Vernex. At the time, it was called simply Vernex Four. 95% of the moon's surface was covered in water. The intense tidal forces that the Vernex exerted on Vernex Four produced many rare compressed minerals within the moon's crust. It was these minerals that brought humans in the first place. The same tidal forces however, made the seas unnavigable and the coastline uninhabitable.
Even more terrifying than the tide was the Nautiladons, giant sea beasts with mile long tentacles. To the Nautiladons, humans were a special treat. Ships, mining platforms, submarines, even low flying aerial vehicles, were ripped apart with ease. As a result, robotic submarines were used to mine the ocean floor.
Over the centuries, the inhabitants of Vernex four watched as the tidal waves anhilitated the coast lines, shrinking their precious continent at an ever increasing pace. In an act of desperation, a visionary leader came up with a most unusual solution. The people of Vernex four were going to use the shell of the Nautiladon for their salvation. Using their robot miners, great arches were constructed from the planets super hard minerals. From these arches hung the shells of dead Nautilodons harvested from the sea floor. Upon these shells, the people built their cities. From then on, Vernex Four was known as Nautila
For five hundred years, Nautila produced some of the finest jewelry and industrial gems in the colonized Galaxy. Then in 4321, a communication was recieved from Nautila. A strange virus was killing the people at an alarming rate. The communication stated that the official psychic of the government of Nautila had received a telepathic message from the nautiladons. She said that the nautilidon ink was a cure for the virus. The communication said that the government had havested some nautiladon ink and had distributed it to the people. The communication then ended. From that point on, Nautila was never heard from again....
