Description

Thanks for looking! Watercolour and Cotman 300gsm paper This is part of a painting that failed. It was supposed to be ageing but my daughter thinks its grandmother willow. The question is ... do I start it again for the third time ... considering it took about 3 months for this version? Many thanks for all previous comments, they are much appreciated, constructive criticism welcome.

This is amazing. Despite it taking months to complete, it has an incredibly free automatic look. Its as though the lines have sprung straight from your subconscious. I would finish them all and turn them into a series. I would definitly go to an exhibition with works of this calibre!

It looks very much the aged willow, and who is older than the trees? Excellent job, and I can't imagine it being a failure in any way!

The word that immediately came to mind is "sere" -- the waters of life recede. This painting, IMHO, is quite successful. Excellent!

As long as a new thought inspires a potentially valid variation for you, give it a try! But this stands on its own as a super success in itself.

This is an amazing picture. Often pictures take off on a tangent that is unexpected to the artist. I think the trick is to "go with the flow" and use the result. So proclaim it as "The Tree Spirit" (or whatever) and take credit for a job will done.

Isn't Grandmother Willow aged then? Nothing ever strikes me as old and alive as a tree, so I wouldn't worry about the similarities. I like it.
