I am a police officer with the Las Vegas Police Department. After suffering a sever neck injury in the USMCR, training for Desert Storm in 1990, I began to draw and paint, for therapy. I was then retrained as a graphic designer using a mouse and tablet as my art instruments. I do graphics at work...then paint at home. I have the best of both worlds now. Art has truly become...my life.BIOTHE ARTIST:
Patricks goal as an artist is to express the evocative truth of what he sees through realism. He believes that nature is the master teacher, and that nature reveals to the impassioned observer/artist exactly how light, color, form and movement must be portrayed to most closely approximate true life and all its attendant and vivid emotions. In his portraiture, he paints character as well as visage; in his still life pieces, he evokes mood as much as he captures likeness.
Patricks art is probing and revealing. His goal is not to shock but to move; his art is not exploitative but compelling. His works are expressive yet disciplined, passionate yet delicate. He strives to bring the viewers into the picture, to fill them with the desire to reach out and touch the canvas, to make them believe that in doing so they would feel the downy softness of a cheek, the silkiness of a satin ballet slipper, or the warmth of sunlight as it floods an idyllic landscape. His work is not just to view, but to experience.
ARTISTS STATEMENT:
Patricks art has become a driving force in his heart and soul. He says, To create a picture that stirs ones spirit is my tribute to the Great Creator who has not only blessed me with the gift of art, but also with the greatest gift, the gift of life itself.
BIOGRAPHY:
Patrick began his artistic exploration as a self-taught artist, embracing nature as his sole guide for a number of years. He was then privileged to have been given the opportunity to study under renowned artist, Barbara Sullivan, recognized in Whos Who in American Women of Western Art and who is an invited artist of the C.M. In recent years, his paintings have been juried into the Las Vegas Art Museum, and chosen for a 2 year show with the City of Las Vegas-Cultural Center. His most recent accomplishments have been; his first One-Person Show at the Art From the Heart Gallery where he exhibited 17 oil paintings: a series of nudes and scenes from classical ballet. I like a lot of this; the colors used, the texture, and rendering of the objects. But, like you said, the rose is large. Just curious- why didn't you just compose the image so the rose would be larger without having to exaggerate? Anyway, very nice job ;)

One of those mistakes of already being to far into the painting, liking what I had done so farwith the vase, ledge and background--I didn't want to have a tiny rose...Just improper planning. These are the mistakes we learn from.

I have seen roses about this size, and they are unusual, but lovely. So it's a small vase? I wish my mistakes were so lovely...haha. I like it.
