Getting very close to the rigging stage now. I've reduced the mesh polycount to 66,000 on this monster and it looks almost identical. You'll note the tentacles are now the right size and shape, and the head details are almost complete. Still have some scale issues with the eyeballs, but that could even be fixed up post rigging. According to Lovecraft's description, the head (the five pointed starfish thing on top) is also covered with wiry scilia, so I'm thinking to add a dynamic hair attachment to that. The colours are still off and I haven't UV mapped him for a texture yet, but soon... Now would anyone pay to download this beastie or have I wasted the weeks of spare time that I lost on this thing?
