GREAT picture!! I think the second render looks the best by far. Might be interesting to see what everyone comes up with regarding Pokemon so try it.

dr- did you know that with an hdri image, you can adjust the intensity of the lighting AFTER it's rendered. After your picture is rendered and before you save it go to the image contrrols on the the top of the render window. The top picture will have much more "punch" to it kinda like the bottom...but better. This doesn't work like levels in PS, rather a true reading of intensity. In other words HDRI images hold all the information. So if you brighten it, the shadows that are black will lighten to reveal what was in there. It gives you incredible control over your art. Try it!

Yes petes is right, i cranked up the contrast on the monitor here and the top one looks quite good then. the metal reflexions on the feet is better there, and yes I do know what a Pokemon is. :)

Might be even better if you gave him just a teeny-tiny bit of bump on the flesh part. This already looks extremely good.

I'm liking it. My daughters are the pokemon experts, they wanted to know what sort of pokemon this was. Both renders look great, top could use some tweaking. maybe a blend of both, an hdr with a small bump from a spot. I have no idea what i'd come up with for a pokemon. I made a godzilla pokemon card to annoy the girls. godzilla, i choose you!

I like the HDRI, but perhaps you could add a light to just effect specular shine on the subject.
