Description

Okay, so this is a WIP of a fighting galleon from the early 16th century. It is not a literal model of an actual galleon, since from the 15th to the early 17th century, no real ship drawings or plans exist of ships of this type. There are artist's paintings and drawings, but shipwrights of this era used models and their own experience to design these ships from scratch, many times drawing in chalk their ideas on the floor, then shaping the wood to those. It wasn't until the 17th century that actual ships lines and features were drawn out. This is a model using features from models and paintings I have researched over the years. I know some of you have benefitted from my critiques of your maritime renders, and a couple have thought I don't post enough. So I am posting these shots to show you I am working on something. As much as I would like to post more, in the words of John Lennon, " Life is what happens, while you are busy making other plans..." I am still going to finish the USS Constitution, but needed to take a break, since I am trying to render her accurately and she has a lot of detail, plus having to move across country to start a new job. So, I hope this will be acceptable...I will post more later.

This is looking great, I have been trying to build an 18th century sailing ship in C4D 6, but at present have switched to Wings as I know it better. I have by no means made as much progress as you have, well done. Dave

Very good! I like ships like this (french fregats of the 18th century...). My English isn't very good. Thats what I want to say: better the canon decks are curved, too, but not at the same way as the board, so the cannon hatchs are crossing the planks. I like to see Your ship completed... Whats about rigging? ;-))

This is magnificent - the level of detail is superb; of course, I'm quite partial; I'm an ex-sailor :-) Exquisite work!

Very nice, Like how you even went to the trouble to model the windows. I've seen alot of ship models in the past and they skip over details like these for textures to take over, but even with textures you can never fully get the full effect. I'd like to see this model when you get it completed, It looks like its a very time consuming model. Thanks for sharing :)
