Description
I am trying to move from 'prefab heavy' programs like Poser and Bryce, and am trying to learn Lightwave. This is my current work in progress, also one of my first Lightwave projects. I may possibly enter the Lightwave Contest this month depending on how things progress.
I modeled the diamond as an Ideal Round Brilliant cut, as per gemological websites on the 'Net. Specs:
Table diameter: 55% of total diameter at girdle
Crown height: 15% of total diameter
Pavilion depth: 45% of total diameter
Culet: no facet
Refractive index: I used 2.0, even though real diamonds are 2.4 as I had trouble getting the internal lighting right. Still working on that. Also used Fast Fresnel shader plugin, glancing angle 60 degrees.
Thanks to Robin Wood's great tutorial on transparent objects and glass (www.robinwood.com). I also highly recommend the 3dGarage Courseware for learning Lightwave. It was irreplaceable for making the learning curve less steep.
Comments welcome. Thanks for viewing.
