I can't help but be reminded of a dictionary entry: lemming Lem"ming (l[e^]m"m[i^]ng), n. [Nor. lemming, lemende; cf. Sw. lemel, Lapp. lummik.] (Zo["o]l.) Any one of several species of small arctic rodents of the genera Myodes and Cuniculus, resembling the meadow mice in form. They are found in both hemispheres; Any of various small, thickset rodents, especially of the genus Lemmus, inhabiting northern regions and known for periodic mass migrations that often end in drowning.

I love art. Always such a great place to express one's feelings etc. UNLESS YOU'RE A REPUBLICAN. Flows right along with some people's concept of religion. Remember, most art used to be financed by the church and some of our finest examples of 3-D art came from that genre. I'm voting for Bush because I'm able to sort through all the media crap. I also don't wish to appear stupid. The Bushes used to be very good neighbors, down on Walker Point in Kennebunkport. They're good people. (Unlike that Kennedy rabble.) As for the war...more people are murdered in New York City every day and they still haven't closed that mess down. It's America and you're still free to be a a Democrat lemming if you want.

I will not comment on the political content of this image (I'm not an American, so it would be rather useless) but on the artistic merits. This is pretty cartoony work. Only primary colors, which could have worked pretty well, but the photograph detonates. The billboard is too perfectly rectangular, with only solid colors, to be convincing. It may have been your intention: creating an image without any depth, to illustrate the lack of depth of the current president. In that case it's a very subtle parody, and I sure can appreciate that!

svdl, why do you consider your political comment useless? The outcome of the american presidental elections has global ramifications, like it or not. But this is hardly the place for a political discussion, so I will say no more.

I am always amazed and greatly disturbed that if an artist posts something in support of the Messrs. Edwards and Kerry, they are "free thinkers", "intelligent", and "the best thing since Wonder bread". Yet, if someone posts something in support of "Bush" (well, actually no necessarily in support of Bush but anit-Kerry), then they are "lemmings", "idiots", "uninformed" and "ultra-conservative right-wingers". Quite frankly, I admire anyone that votes according tot he record. The new GAO report that is coming out over-inflates everyones income (using household income vs tax return income) so everyone looks wealthier than they are to make the economy look worse than it is. The jobs information, Bush's numbers are stronger in some instances (jobs created) and the same in some instances (unemployment rate) than when Clinton ran - and won - reelection. I lived in MA under Kerry and I know his voting record, that is why I'm not voting for him. Lieberman, I might have. I would have to do some research on his record as I am not that familiar with his and can't back someone if I don't know their record. The man who was running against Gore for the Dem nom in 2000 (I keep forgetting his name for some reason), I might have voted for him. What I've seen of his record, I like. But, Kerry or Ted Kennedy - NO WAY IN THE 9 LEVELS OF HELL!! As for Bush, well Larouche is a NO WAY and Nader can't be on Virginia's ballot and I'm not really sure who else is going to be on the ballot. Of course, I can always write in if I really don't feel comfortable with anyone. I have time to sit back and listen and do research. If I vote for Bush, it will be on his RECORD not the media propaganda. Read the reports, read the voting records, read anything but campaign literature and do more than watch Michael Moore's film and listen to the Fantasywood bunch. Do more than watch the tv ads and listen to the campaign platform (which Howard Dean himself is "meaningless" and "I'm not even paying attention"). And, most of all, stop calling people names and throwing personal insults. That only results in you in a negative response to yourself as it makes you look like a jerk. I have many liberal (make that raging liberal) friends - my boss and the two women I work with, my ex-brother in law, some members of my forum - and we have many political debates and discussions without name calling (and we know eachother). To insinuate someone is something they are not simply because you do not agree with their politics is just rude.

seven trillion dollars. I live in detroit. For the first time in history, the big three is below sixty percent market share. To put that in perspective, the top three SUPPLIERS to the big three in the detroit area alone make more than the GNP of Iraq. We've lost that. In under three years. Value added comes from industry, not service. Average profit per unit in teh big three is 20 thousand dollars. Of course we don't want that money in america. We'd rather give it to the axis of evil! There is a war, and we are losing it. The countries we are losing to are socialists, they allow cartels, we cannot compete in any way. Finally, living in detroit, I have spent my entire life enjoying the great lakes. In less than three years, the mercury levels in the lakes have risen so dramatically you are now risking your life to eat the fish caught in the great lakes. Because bush has eviscerated the EPA and lifted any restrictions on burning coal. You might feel Bush protects us from Saddam, who so CLEARLY has WMD and also FLEW THE PLANES, but who is going to protect us from Bush? 600 billion surplus to 7 trillion dollar Debt in less than three years! http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/ there. no name calling, no specious arguments, no foolishness. No vote from me for this guy.

Hey, here's an idea, let's all vote for Kerry, surrender in the war on terror, then we won't have to worry about all this political mess, the constitution, or even this country.... We'll all be DEAD.... Bush has done alot of things I'm not fond of (what is he thinking type stuff) But this issue, protecting the United States of America, he's got right.

The choice in this upcoming election couldn't be clearer. If you think we can win the war on terror by beating the crap out of every non-democratic country in the world, kill every last terrorist & live happily ever after, vote for Bush. If you think money & the interests of giant corporations are more important than education, healthcare & the environment, vote for Bush. If you believe that Christianity is the only valid religion & that our government should embrace it's principles, vote for Bush. And if you're willing to sacrifice your civil liberties in the mistaken belief that it will make you more secure, vote for Bush. When the 9-11 hysteria finally wears off & we're able to look back on this presidency with some historical perspective, I firmly believe we will regard it at as one of the most dangerous & hysterical periods in the history of our democracy, akin to the McCarthy hearings era. Wake up people & vote to restore some sanity & decency to our government before it all slips away...

as a citizen of the world i cant explain to myself whycan anybody promote war, does it have some rational?on news i see every day how many money is spend on a war like that, and i read abouth the deficit on your government, the loss of employees, and depression in the economy of the USA that money wouldnt be better used in your own country?promoting education, health, bissness, etc? talking about the Image could be better if the background were not so flat, the only image that has some degree of difficulty is the girl, the background seems that only used the tool of paint in windows,i think that need more composition

This is how far the understanding of art, at least for some people, has come. Something that could be thrown together by any 10 year old child that writes like an 8 year old while demonstrating some childish and uncritical "we are the good guys"-opinion is in my opinion not even worth mentioning to the child's parents. Then, as I read the comment, I find out that this child is a mother to another child :/ ... .. now I'm confused. With most generous interpretation, this picture only qualifies as a perfect clichfor a blind "My country is the best, even though I haven't seen another one"-patriotism that ends in immoral behavior in the name of some claimed to be moral god. When one of such people go into war and get killed by some iraqi, I feel sorry the iraqi, for he has to live with having killed a human. Sadly there are many more iraqis getting killed than those who supress them because of a disadvantage of technology... sadly reality is not always as fair as it should be. How about being not patriotic for just a minute and immagine you would be in the position of an iraqi who lost all his belongings and even family members. After having done this and you still feel patriotic, you failed in establishing compassion for another human being. Then again, I pitty you.
