Description

Dallas World Aquarium and Zoological Gardens Japanese spider crab "Living in the deep waters of the North Pacific Ocean are Japanese spider crabs (Macrocheira kaempferi). They have the greatest leg span of any arthropod. Adult males can weigh up to 40 pounds (18 kg) and have a clawspan of 13 feet (3.9 m). Their common name comes from their likeness to spiders (rounded bodies covered with stubby tubercles and long spindly legs). Crabs grow by molting or shedding their hard shells. A new one that is several sizes too big is developed." ~dwazoo.com Minolta Htsi/ 5.6 1/250 Kodak 400
