I like to make pretty pictures. It's that simple.
When I got my first computer about a decade ago, I had it made by a 15-year-old whiz kid, who showed me a program he had, called Bryce 2. He asked me if I'd like it installed on my machine. I said, yeah, cool. I later learned it was a cracked program, so I made that right, and then bought Rhinoceros, because I wanted fancier models than Bryce could allow. Terragen and eventually Nendo/Wings followed. Then I needed better renderings, so I got into Renderman-compliant programs BMRT, Entropy, and now AIR, though I still use Bryce for renderings, too.
Then there was Photoshop to do postwork, Dreamweaver and raw HTML coding to show works to other artists, a bit of this, a bit of that, some other non-related computing (Finale for my music, MediaShout, a bit of Python, Linux, InDesign for my brochures, and on and on), and now I actually help others to learn this stuff. Not where I expected to be, but enjoying the ride all the same.
Now, I've started using my skills, which I never thought were all that great, for advertising and for publications of all sorts. I've even begun selling models to people who have approached me. I still work for a living as a music minister and as a marketing director for a non-profit hospital district. Now, because I only started out wanting to make pretty pictures and had to learn everything from C++ to shader writing, I often am the geekiest person in the office, wherever that may be ... and it's all fun.
I always have liked to do art with traditional media, but computer has allowed me to create a whole other dimension of objects. Many of my models are simple, but they serve me well in marketing and publications. Who knew? Some of those who know me have started seeing my username pop up in the photography forum lately, too. I was bereft of camera for about four years, which was a long story and not all that interesting. Suffice it to say, I'm excited to be back. I have an Olympus in hand again and have been annoying people with my photos from time to time.
Recently, after having picked up the guitar several years ago, I began playing accordion. Life is just more and more fun, isn't it? I'm actually getting better at accordion. I just said to myself, "Self, who cares what people might think; I like the accordion. And that, as they say, is that. :)

hmmm..never been closer than El Paso, meself..;) you did the whole thing in Wings? don't know if I could suggest anything..you've got it all under control..;)
arata
Incidentally, I've been playing around with Wings myself during the last couple of days. I haven't been able to model anything though because I found the interface a little difficult. Love the way you've modeled the hands. I think it enhances the over-all image. The motif is quite familiar, I think I've seen some Hopi handicrafts from Charles and Ray Eames' art and designs.

Excellent model. Great detail on the hands. I'm learning Wings myself and I agree with pakled. Looks like you've got the hang of it. My only suggestion would be to play with the textures then put this guy in a scene.

finally another work of yours ...honored... :) I do like it alot.. love the colors.. I had a teacher that lived with the Hopi for a while.. she learned alot, but never talked about her experience... too intense for us to understand. I don't really know much about techniques .. but I guess u did a good job!! I like that it is the image alone and then grey, it makes it stand out.. nice!! Thanks for ur support in my work and stop by anytime u wish.

Excellent kachina. My dad used to draw these. I'm in Arizona so I'm familiar with the Hopi.

Wow, another fantastic wings creation. The feathers, the clothes, the pose, all are awesome. You are mastering wings. Keep up the excellent work!

Kind of an art deco look different than last i viewed.Very nice form. maybe a dreamcatcher or feathers layered in the background.ethereal like.

This is a beautiful model, expertly lit, textured, and rendered! This seems to be a more perfect figure than most, likely for tribal ceremonies and not for sale in a gift shop.
susanmoses
A charming work... lit perfectly... love your colour choice... arata mentions the hands and I thought the hands a little strange when I first saw it... but that's just me... it is an outstanding realization + render!
orbital
Quality render, and modelling. The colours work well aginst the background!

i'm with the above, good modelling work, i think we would all like a tutorial, step-by-step images; as like the others i've tried wings but havent had much joy with the interface.

Textures and colors are excellent!!! could use a little work on the feathers but all in all an outstanding job !!!!!! Bravo!!!

A very well done image and render. One wonders what magic this figure will introduce into the world.
melevos
Fantastic job!!Congratulations!!

Your modelling is superb. Who needs poser anymore? ;) I find only there is a strange difference between body and mask. The mask appears flat to me (it doesn't mean that the mask shouldn't be flat shaped) I believe you can enhance this image with a different illumination for your excellent model.
ShadowWind
Excellent modeling of the character indeed. You are quite talented...

Hi John:)your Kachina is just wonderful-excellent modelling and I agree with Orbital about the colors/background-excellent work*****

What a delight to find your work waiting here for me to see! While I do not work in this medium, I find it well executed and absolutely accurrate in it's references...

"Modeled entirely in Wings and texture mapped in uvmapper. Bryce 5 renderer." I'm impressed, that is way beyond me. I keep thinking he ought to be doing the music my alien breakdancers are moving too. ;)
cynlee

shadowdragonlord

RodsArt
That's amazing, from such simplicity as cubes.
