YOU BLOODY BASTARDS- An Opinion on Our Leaders(1) WOO its election time yet again folks! EXCITED?!?! ARE YOU ON THE EDGES OF YOUR SEATS YET?!?! No, me either. Apathy apathy apathyyyyy... Lets face the God's honest truth here, we're fucked. Australia: FUCKED. America: FUCKED. Kerry or Bush? Latham or Howard? Pepsi or Coke? (the answer for that one is simple: COKE!) Either way we're fucked and we don't even get a refreshing aftertaste or a competition to mail in for. Just the dull, throbbing pain of the kick to the nether regions. As our two countries slowly trundle into spin mode, I decided to throw my hat into the ring. Well goddamn what kind of democracy is this? Two choices? Two parties? TWO?! Well there's always the third candidate but as we ALLLLLL know its either republican or democrat in America, Labor or ALP in Australia. But in all seriousness, how the holy hell do these people get away with lying to our GODDAMN FACES TIME AND TIME AGAIN and yet they STILL get re-elected?! I'm sorry, are these the same Republicans who a few damn years ago called for Clinton's impeachment for lying about getting blown(2)? Not QUITE as important as lying about the cause of a war is it? (for those following along, the answer here is no.) Admittedly, it wasn't the loyal or moral thing to do, and Bush or Howard are both very dedicated to their wives. Possibly because the wives are the only ones with brains in the family. The thing I don't get is that the Christian right (when I say Christian I mean the 'GOD HATES FAGS DIE YOU HELLSPAWNED FAGGOTS!' type Christian... or the inspired words of General Boykin, Deputy Undersecretary of Defence for Intelligence: "It's not Usama Bin Laden. It's not what you can see: it's the enemy in the spiritual realm(3).") decided to be so anti Clinton and his morally suspect actions and yet the backlash against Bush has almost been non-existent. This is someone who STOLE an election in the first place. You all know the story, I'm not going to rehash something that is common knowledge down under, but Gore is your president(4). I'm not sure if that would've made things better... In fact I'm sure it wouldn't have improved from Clinton's time, but still. Two wars in four years? TWO WARS IN FOUR YEARS?! Not any of those covert non publicized wars either, I mean two PUBLIC wars where Americans, Australians and others die for the almighty black liquid that happens to sit under grains of yellow sand in a vast desert that somebody else owns. Um, owned. Now its all ours! Well, not ALL, some of it might trickle down to us... through extremely expensive petrol prices. Those things will probably never come down now, which is odd, isn't it? We capture all this oil and yet the prices are UP? Yes, makes sense to me... makes me glad I travel on buses. Well not GLAD, but at least I don't have to turn over any krugerrands to get from A to B. Dishonesty. That's what we've been fed from day one from our respective 'rulers'. Lies. Do you like being lied to? Think about that. Do you enjoy the experience of affording someone trust and having it stomped into the dust? I'd think not. And look, lo! Yet, look at that, Bush is back on the bill for '04. FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS!!! Oh God help us all if there's four more years. "If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." -George W. Bush Dec 18, 2000. In Australia, we find out that our people know we were lied to(5) and yet, hey, it doesn't matter. We'd let in that... liar. Liar. Some world we have here for our kids. How can we explain Watergate now? Nixon was a crook. And Bush isn't? And Howard isn't? Why do we let this happen? Why do we let them sit in office, content and happy in their lots in life, sitting back with their feet up on their lacquered desks? We sure protest. Hell people protested from day one(6). Yet there's a problem: we keep our liars in office. Stolen elections, no prollem mistah! Right wing maniacs in charge of high places? SURE!(7) Ministers who liken asylum seekers to animals? YEP!(8) And yet, these are the people on our electoral ticket. But lets narrow stuff down a little more so that you can feel personally affronted: Bush said: "Our intelligence officials estimate that Saddam Hussein had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent." - State of the Union Address - 1/28/2003 Well damn, we all know the answer to that one... BZZT wrong! LIE(9). Besides the fact that whatever chemical weapons Hussein might've used against the Kurds, most were sold to him by Bush senior when it was OK for this dangerous dictator to be let loose on the world(10). But as you know, they're only DICTATORS when they stop being useful to us. Bush FAMOUSLY said: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." -State of the Union Address - 1/28/2003 Ouch! We all remember this one. Mostly because it was a total... bald-faced... absolute lie. And it was one that SHOULD have brought down the 'president'. Not the REAL president (GORE) but thanks to quick thinking by Rice and others(11), he escaped unscathed. "But neither she nor the President, nor anyone else in authority, ever cared whether that story was true. It merely served a purpose, like the "aluminium tubes" allegation, and the assertion that Saddam was assisting Al Qaeda, and the other prewar "intelligence" myths designed to excite belligerence and undermine the U.N. inspection process." 'I'm a uniter, not a divider." Austin American-Statesman, 7/30/00 Ok no footnote for that one. Mostly because I LAUGHED TOO HARD WHEN I READ IT AND COULDN'T COPY THE DAMN THING. UNITER?!?! WHAT?! WHO THE FUCK ARE WE TALKING ABOUT AGAIN? BUSH? WHICH PARALLEL UNIVERSE IS THIS? SHOULD I BE DRINKING BEEF AND EATING WATER? But seriously, this is Bush saying he UNITES? Let's look up 'unite' shall we? To the Batdictionary(tm)!!! u

wow. You guys have said a mouth full. First of all I love the piece you've written, and second of all, I think that if more people were actually becoming involved in the things that are happening, change can happen. I think that right now a lot of people in positions of power are taking advantage of the fact that so many of us are too disenheartened to do anything. I Have been one of those... 'eh, its no use voting. it doesn't even matter what we vote. our votes DON'T count, and picketing and complaining and sending letters don't matter... well if everyone thought this, the control and the abuse of control and power would quadruple because no one would be giving any kind of resistance. I feel that the atrocities such as the fake president and police state/totalitarianism blah blah blah have become so bad and so 'in our faces' because of the disenheartening we have all endured. Kent state began the downfall of the power of our words. So we stopped speaking. That was the point. I think I'm changing sides on this issue. I think I will go vote. I think I will bitch and moan. I agree. More people should.

Thanks for posting this rant from your guts - I share your outrage. I'm not happy about Kerry's failure to come right out & admit he made a serious mistake in voting for both war authorization & the Patriot Act, but how can I not do everything in my power to make sure Bush isn't re-selected? As a young man, Kerry had the moral courage to volunteer for military service when he thought it was the right thing to do & then to speak out against the war when his conscience forced him to. He's made a lot of compromises since then, but I still believe that he's a decent & intelligent man who will do his best to reverse the disastrous course that Bush has set us on.

You said it APATHY. Only reading the articles and "news pieces" that agree with pre-conceived notions. APATHY - ignoring the soldiers and what they say and only listening to the same "news" outlets that agree with you. APATHY - voting for Kerry without knowing his record just because you hate Bush. APATHY - voting for Bush just because you hate Kerry. APATHY - voting for any candiddate because they are "your party". APATHY - never haven spoken to an Iraqi or Kurd and, again, only believing what your choosen news outlet has told you. APATHY - accepting "intelligence" from one man/side because it is your "choosen" alignment and they are of your mindset and then claiming it is a lie when another espouses the same "intelligence". APATHY - not listening to the follow up reports (admittedly they only get tiny blurbs in non-traditional mediums - never in major media like ABC,NBC, or CBS) that state other than what you have already convinced yourself is true based on your pre-conceived notions. APATHY - blindly accepting that the radicals (of any group) can be "reasoned" with and "appeased". APATHY - pretty much what led us to WWII. APATHY - not only the right is guilt of it. ALL sides are.

You can't make this stuff up, fact is stranger than fiction: ***** Wednesday, September 1 Pentagon Censors Videotape on Government Openness By Ted Bridis Associated Press Writer Published: Sep 1, 2004 WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon censored some footage in public versions of a Humphrey Bogart-themed videotape that cost $70,500 to produce and was intended to teach government employees to respond to citizens' requests for information. Parts of the training video, "The People's Right to Know" were blacked out and replaced with the message, "copyrighted material removed for public viewing." http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGB7RPATLYD.html * kldorman.....a friend (Catholic Iraqi) in Ontario was from Iraq, when he became of military age his father paid A LOT of money to smuggle him out of Iraq so he could make his way to the settlements in Syria where he spent 5 years before going to Ontario....when the Iraqi military did not find the son there they took the 65 year old father to prison....the oldest son of the family PAID 5 thousand USD to the local leader to replace his father in prison....8 years later and after all that has happened in Iraq the oldest brother hasn't been found...my friend prays that his brother was not killed in the 'woodchipper'....war sucks...war for the reasons the Bush League is fighting this war REALLY sucks.....apathy REALLY REALLY sucks....good post

Politicians lie. It seems to be a requisite for the job. I don't know much about Australian politics, so I don't have an opinion there. I don't know much about US domestic politics, so I don't have an opinion there. I don't know enough about Kerry to know wheter he'd be a good president or not. But I do know about Bush' foreign policy. And it has been disastrous. 60% of all people worldwide believe Bush is a greater danger than Bin Laden. If you look at the body count that can be laid directly at the feet of Bush and Bin Laden over the last four years, those 60% are right. And we let it happen. The Americans allowed the court to appoint the president, he did not win the elections (Gore didn't either, it was too close to call without an absolutely accurate count of the votes). THe rest of the world acknowledged him as president. Bush launched the war in Iraq on very flimsy grounds, and the Austrailan and most of the European leaders blindly followed. And we let them. It is high time to shake off that apathy! Maybe it's a rant, but it's well written, well documented, and necessary.

Ok after watching Mike Moores farenhieght 911 and some documentries that have been on TV in Australia you can really understand why some people become terrorists. You hear about evil in the past. I'm stunned to discover that it is happening right now in front of us.

Coke? Pepsi? Where's my $#%$#@! Mt. Dew?! Anyhow isn't it odd that the dictators and terrorist organizations of the world were the same ones supported and funded by the current western regime about two decades ago? Sometimes I swear it seems like 9/11 was a cover up operation destroying the places where records are kept that could expose shady dealings. (Thus there's probably one more tier up that's not seen, and it wants to stay that way. If there's another attack in the U.S., odds are that it will be a place where potentially revealing records are kept.) Al Queda a hired gun. The tragedy of those caught in the wrong place would have its purpose. The war spawned profits the very people who destroyed any evidence that may expose them. Play the pieces right and you could effectively ruin western economies and disempower and/or eliminate the middle class. Then incite fervor and hatred amongst the poor of the world to fuel profit and power of some unseen war machine. The people of the world are being played here. Civilization is being made to walk backward for a few. It's time we actually find out who the players are and move humanity forward.

Personally I think all politicians should be put in a circus tent! Thanks meico aka Mike for that appropo quote! The power of the people is an illusion created by those in power to keep the masses appeased.
